In a heart-wrenching incident, a farmer and his son from Minaki village in Nanded district died by suicide, reportedly over the boy’s request for a smartphone. The family was facing financial difficulties, which led to the tragedy.
Sub-inspector Dilip Munde, who is investigating the case, said the boy had been asking his father to buy him a smartphone for a while. However, the father, burdened by farm and vehicle loan repayments, expressed his inability to afford one. On Wednesday evening, the boy once again asked for the smartphone, but his father declined. Upset, the boy left home.
When the boy did not return, his father went to their farm, where he discovered that his son had died by suicide. The father, overcome by shock and grief, also took his own life.
The tragic sequence came to light when other family members reached the farm later that evening. Sub-inspector Munde said the mother confirmed that the financial strain and inability to fulfill the boy’s request were contributing factors.
The incident has left the village in deep shock and raises questions about the pressures families face due to financial and emotional challenges.
