A recent study has found that using paracetamol, a common pregnancy painkiller, might increase the risk of children developing ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). ADHD is a condition that makes it hard for kids to focus or control their behavior.
The study looked at 307 pregnant women and found that children whose mothers had traces of paracetamol in their blood were three times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. However, the study also noted that other factors, like the mother’s health or reasons for taking the medicine, could play a role.
Earlier studies on this topic have shown mixed results. Some found a link between paracetamol and ADHD, while others did not. This new research used blood samples to measure paracetamol use more accurately, but it still has limitations, like a small group of participants and a focus on one city.
Experts say more research is needed to confirm these findings. For now, pregnant women are advised to consult their doctors before taking paracetamol or any medication.
This study reminds us to be careful about medicines during pregnancy and to stay updated on new health guidelines.
