The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) marked its golden jubilee with a grand celebration attended by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The event highlighted 50 years of NIMHANS’ contribution to mental health and neuroscience advancements.
President Murmu lauded NIMHANS for its pioneering work in patient care, research, and academic excellence. She praised the Bellary model for revolutionizing community-based mental health services and acknowledged the success of the Tele MANAS platform, which has supported 1.7 million individuals in their local languages over two years.
The President emphasized the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and commended the growing awareness in India. She appreciated NIMHANS’ holistic approach, integrating traditional practices like Yoga with modern healthcare, ensuring well-rounded mental and physical well-being.
President Murmu also encouraged continued efforts to make mental health services accessible and inclusive, stating that a healthy mind is the foundation of a healthy society. NIMHANS’ golden jubilee marks a significant milestone in India’s journey toward better mental healthcare.
