Researchers at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, explored how highly sensitive people can be vulnerable to hypersensitive narcissism. The study is published in the Journal Of Clinical Psychology.

Understanding Hypersensitive Narcissism

Hypersensitive narcissism is a type of covert narcissism in which a person displays self-absorbed conceit, hunger for appeasement from others, and intense negativity even in trivial matters. It is also known as vulnerable narcissism.

The Study

The researchers invited 280 individuals to participate in an online study. They were asked to complete questionnaires like the Highly Sensitive Person Scale (HSPS-G), the Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale (HSNS), the Big Five Inventory (BFI), and the Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO).

The Findings

The results revealed that highly sensitive persons are strongly associated with vulnerable narcissism, particularly its grandiose aspects like entitlement rage, a tendency to avoid discomfort, a tendency to withdraw, etc.
