Inside Cara Delevingne’s Battle With Anxiety: A Closer Look At Her Brave Revelations

On June 12, 2023, British model and actress Cara Delevingne opened up about anxiety in a panel discussion at the UK’s Center for Youth Mental Health. She honestly shared her ongoing struggle with anxiety, emphasizing that she no longer feels the need to conceal it. She acknowledged how anxiety fuelled her substance use and “downfall”.

A visibly healthier and happier Delevingne expressed her decision to stop running away from herself, recognizing that doing so only leads to self-inflicted obstacles. She said: “[Anxiety is] something you can’t hide. You can only be cured by talking about it … I’m done with running away from me because all I’m doing is running away from myself and running into a wall.” 

Delevingne described anxiety as a distressing state characterized by uncertainties and the fear of the unknown. She further said, “Sometimes the more energy you give to the anxiety, sometimes the worse it gets, you don’t know how to kind of move through it”.

By admitting that she doesn’t have all the answers and learning to embrace the present moment, she discovered the power of accepting the “what ifs” that often haunt individuals, causing their condition to worsen.

Cara Delevingne’s anxiety struggle also saw her try out a wide range of therapies. She admitted that she found traditional therapy not suited to her needs as the therapy discussions only amplified her anxious thoughts.

Instead, she turned to yoga, not just as a physical exercise, but for the calming effect it had on her mind. She emphasized the importance of reconnecting with one’s body and adopting a holistic approach to well-being in combating anxiety, which includes regular exercise.

The 30-year-old also highlighted how anxiety fuelled her substance use and other behavioral disorders. But, fortunately, the benefits of participating in a 12-step program for addiction graced Cara Delevingne’s sobriety journey.

Being surrounded by like-minded individuals in a group intervention, who support and uplift one another, became a vital source of inspiration for her. She acknowledged that not everyone may find a treatment or specific program helpful, as each individual’s path to recovery is unique.

How Cara Delevingne opened up about anxiety compassionately on a public forum can be a lesson for everyone with mental health conditions who are on a quest for a newfound sense of wholeness and self-acceptance.

Her journey serves as a reminder that addressing mental health requires open dialogue and a personalized approach. By prioritizing self-care, embracing the present moment, and seeking support from a community, individuals can work towards finding healing and reclaiming their authentic selves.
